|
Purpose & Key accountabilities
- Assure that BMW is appropriately represented in the Technology Community.
- Take responsibility that major market innovative technologies and solutions are identified, reported and relevant technologies initially transferred to BMW R&D.
- Account for a valuable outcome of research collaborations and joint research projects with technology partners.
Key accountabilities of the function
- Identifies relevant key innovations in Japan and other APAC markets and evaluates technological impact on BMW products.
- Ideates, proposes, executes and manages proof-of-concept prototyping projects with external and internal partners.
- Authors technology feature analysis, descriptions and reports.
- Transfers technologies sustainably into BMW development processes of new product features.
- Decides which information to share with OEMs, technology providers and the government and which information is too confidential to share
- Decides which information of OEM, technology providers and government to report to BMW R&D
- Acts autonomously in representing BMW to OEMs, technology providers and government
Impact on innovations and changes
- Drives technology innovation in early vehicle development phase.
- Provides insight on long-term technology developments.
- Prepares and influences decision-making in R&D departments.
- Creates new customer experiences through meaningful proof-of-concept projects.
- Contributes to internal and external concept vehicles with technology innovations.
Purpose and subject of the interaction/communication with internal/external interfaces, negotiating Mandate
- Internal: Communicates with all research and pre-development (FoVE) departments of BMW globally. Informs about technology trends, specific innovations and proposes valuable proof-of-concept (PoC) projects. Suggests, prepares and executes PoC projects in close collaboration with FoVE departments.
- External: Communicates with researchers in public and private research facilities and up to C-level executives in companies. Proposes, prepares and manages PoC projects self-responsibly.

Educational Background / Professional Knowledge and Experience / Other Skills:
Education: Bachelor/Master degree in the relevant technology fields (e.g. computer science, engineering, physics, or similar).
Work experience, Leadership experience:
- 10+ years of experience.
- Strong experience in the required technology fields.
- Experience in open innovation/ideation programs.
- Experience in supplier/partner relationship management.
Additional skills: special skills / technical ability etc.
- Strong communication and presentation skills in Japanese and English.
- Ability to identify technology gaps and actively contribute to closing them through technical concepts and leveraging industrial and academic partnerships.
- Ability to speak publicly in front of small and big stakeholder groups.
- Existing network in technology community.
